Feminism, Politics, Performance

13 October 2021, 17:00

Speakers: Vlasta Jalušič, Ema Kugler, Metka Mencin - Čeplak and Jasmina Založnik (moderator)

You are kindly invited to attend a panel discussion about political performance through the lens of feminism, moderated by dramaturge, theater researcher and critic, and co-curator of the exhibition Realize! Resist! React! Performance and Politics in the 1990s in the Post-Yugoslav Context Jasmina Založnik.

The realization that all women’s rights, gained anywhere in the world, are exclusively the result of feminist struggle, must be constantly kept alive. Regardless of the system in which they were granted or the time women spent fighting for them, women’s rights and the related discourses must be viewed as never-fully-established or always also at least potentially endangered (which is made evident in the inseparable connection between the capitalist mode of production and gender and class discrimination). The development of the feminist movement and thought is not unilateral or linear, but rather a dispersed, oft-interrupted and changeable exploration of positions exposing the mechanisms of power.

The panel comprising Vlasta Jalušič, Ema Kugler, and Metka Mencin - Čeplak will shed light on the changing social, political (and theoretical) conditions of thinking about feminism and its political implementation in the broader sociopolitical sense, including the sphere of art, where the emphasis will be on performance art.

The event is organized in accordance with the recommendations of the NIPH. To attend it you need to submit formal proof of meeting one of the RVT (recovery – vaccination – test) conditions. As the maximum number of visitors is 20, we recommend you register by email at recepcijaMSUM@mg-lj.si or by phone, 01/2416825.

The event is part of the exhibition Realize! Resist! React! Performance and Politics in the 1990s in the Post-Yugoslav Context that is organized in the framework of Our Many Europes, a four-year programme organised by the museum confederation L'Internationale and its partners, and co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. L'Internationale comprises seven major European art institutions: Moderna galerija (MG+MSUM, Ljubljana, Slovenia); Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid, Spain); MACBA, Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Spain); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium); Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie (Warsaw, Poland), SALT (Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey) and Van Abbemuseum (VAM, Eindhoven, Netherlands), and its partners are HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design (HDK-Valand, Gothenburg, Sweden) and the National College of Art and Design (NCAD, Dublin, Ireland).
