Alekdandra Vajd, Hynek Alt: My Left Hand
catalogue, 2014
25 €

My Left Hand was affected by the transformative change of the approach Alt and Vajd had adopted in 2006. The politics of an image is a politics of detachment, illusion and ambiguity which does not have to be shown ostentatiously but which always leeks elegance, fineness, playfulness or archetype of images with which Alt and Vajd approach us when photographing optical illusions and views from caves, simulating meteorological phenomena or taking the photograph down from the wall and exhibiting it as a three-dimensional object in space.

Aleksandra Vajd: Various Pictures
catalogue, 2004
10

The catalogue with texts by Vasja Nagy, Stojan Pelko and Lara Štrumej, was accompanying the exhibition various pictures in Galerija Loža in Koper. The catalogue contains images of Vajd's father, which she created from already existing photographs. The photographs that constitute various pictures separate the face of Vajd's father from the originary images. The author's intervention of reworking and enlarging her father's face led to a loss of similarity with his individual physiognomic characteristics.

The book consists of the black and white photographs of Vajd's late father, which were exhibited in Mala galerija. The author's artistic practice dealt with her father for a longer period. Vajd arranged the photographs in a conceptually thought out series in 2003, soon after her father passed. What connects all of the images is the depicted's helpless body, slumped over the bed. The photographs, which were a part of an installation, are based on similarities and differences, which are constituted in the same life situation.

The bilingual visual book by the artists Aleksandra Vajd and Jimena Mendoza (in Czech and English) incorporates a poem by Petr Borkovec and graphic design by Adéla Svobodová. The publication primarily aims to capture the artists’ fluid co-operation through a continual process of copying, metamorphoses and exchanges, extensions, sameness and simultaneous dissimilarity, Aleksandra Vajd and Jimena Mendoza developed a shared yet conflicting practice that emphasises what is sensual and invisible and blurs the borderlines between causality and coincidence, media and authorship, the supporters and the supported.
