The MG+MSUM LIBRARY is the largest specialised museum library for modern and contemporary art in Slovenia. Founded in 1948, it is mainly intended for students, researchers and experts that study the art of the 20th and 21st centuries. The library holdings comprise 70,000 book titles, exhibition catalogues, art journals and other related periodicals.
Focuses of the library collection:
exhibition catalogues of modern and contemporary art in Slovenia since 1900,
exhibition catalogues of world museums and galleries,
monographs of artists,
books on painting, sculpture, printmaking, architecture, photography, design, new media, museology and art theory,
professional periodicals.
As a part of the library materials is kept in the dislocated archival part of the library, a prior arrangement with the head of the library is recommended when visiting the library for research and study purposes.
Library catalogue:
The library has a card-index catalogue and a digital catalogue of items. Since 2010, the library has been part of the Slovenian COBISS system, uploading the data on new titles as they are acquired and gradually adding older materials, too.
