The 20th Century. Continuities and Ruptures exhibition breaks with traditional linearity by introducing the topics of the 20th century avant-gardes and of the art of the Partisan resistance, bringing them into the national history of art on an equal footing with more familiar trends and, as a consequence, casting new light on the latter.

In the Museum of Modern Art (MG+), a new exhibition is now on view: a circular timeline with a selection of works that are an addition to and continuation of the permanent exhibition 20th Century. Continuities and Ruptures and a guide to same.

Space with a Potentiality for a Shift presents works by artists who, in their reflection on contemporary photographic practice and its oscillation between representation and participation, engage viewers in a different perception of space and time that can be associated with the concept of heterotopia.

The exhibition Picture (a) City displays works of art that depict and critically reflect on various periods in the life of the city of Ljubljana.

The Politics of Memory, Power, and Resistance. A selection of works from Moderna galerija’s Arteast 2000+ and national collections plus special projects.

The exhibition Monuments, Plans and Utopias continues the trajectory of Sam Durant’s long-term work Proposals for Monuments, and represents the latest iteration in a series of projects that address the postcolonial period, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the lives and deaths of monuments, and the intersection of cultural production and the struggle for independence.

Moderna galerija is issuing a public call for the selection of a curator, author or authors’ group, and project for the presentation in the Slovenian Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

As part of the exhibition Picture (a) City, embroidery workshops will take place on selected Fridays until the end of May.

The exhibition is a result of a constructive dialogue between specific collections – the Solidarity Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Skopje and the Arteast 2000+ collection, as well as the national collections of Moderna galerija, Ljubljana – highlighting only works that are made of natural materials, in addition to works that reflect the artists’ engagement with nature.
