Karpotritter, Matjaž Ivanišin

Ivanišin's meditation on people and places from the films of Karpo Godina, who had known and frequented them in a different time, constitutes a subtle, highly multilayered film essay. Belying its seemingly simple surface and design, the film takes us to a virtual zone between two spectral temporalities which give it sense and direction without ever solidifying into a tangible semblance: the temporality of the shared multiethnic Republic, captured and coloured by the images in Godina's »original«, and the temporality of the recent war and destruction which invaded the interval between then and now, irrevocably altering both the state of general history and of memory – of the memory reconstructed (on film) and historically transcended by the film.
