Rok Vevar: Guided tour of the Temporary Slovenian Dance Archive
Wednesday, 24 May 2023 at 5:00 p.m. | TSDA (first floor)

The guided tour will be given in English

The ZSPA archivist will present the systematised materials arranged in a large number of system units (choreographic folders, folders of tours, festivals, the Slovenian Contemporary Dance Association, folders of artists, pedagogical programmes in the field of contemporary dance, etc.) in the form of a story, together with some of the most recent archival acquisitions. He will talk about overlooked aspects of the history of contemporary dance in Slovenia and the need to reassemble historical interpretations from scattered information. He will take the visitor into the rich historical-social context from which contemporary dance in Slovenia has always re-formed its various artistic and functional manifestations throughout the twentieth century. He will also present some of the plans that NDA Slovenia has for the medium term with the Temporary Slovenian Dance Archive.

Rok Vevar is a theatre scholar, writer, researcher, curator and historian of contemporary dance, who has been a multifaceted presence in the field of contemporary Slovenian performing arts for more than two decades. He is the initiator and founder of numerous festivals and initiatives, as well as the Temporary Slovenian Dance Archive (2011) and, last but not least, the author of the monograph Ksenija, Xenia: Ksenia Hribar’s London Dance Years 1960–1978, in which he focuses on the early period of the artistic career of this dancer and choreographer, who is considered one of the central figures of Slovenian contemporary dance history.
