Anita Wach: Three Lives

Performance as part of the 30 Movements project

2nd Movement

Art and nature, art in nature, share a common structure: that of excessive and useless production – production for its own sake, production for the sake of profusion and differentiation.” Elizabeth Grosz

Three individual life forms – two with the ability to move, one with the ability to produce oxygen, all with the ability to feel – slowly move through the empty rooms of a gallery. Three autonomous bodies seeking ways to put down roots in the concrete floor of an art space. Each with its own survival strategies. The hierarchy between them is blurred, the nature of their coexistence paradoxical. The three beings interact like agents of care, all possessing the power to affect and transform the others. The only way they can communicate is through touch, muscle cramps, and the laws of gravity.

Performed by Anita Wach, Jernej Škof, Aeschynanthus Rasta, Dypsis Lutescens, Cactus

Artistic director: Bojan Jablanovec

Duration: 40 minutes

Rectum is part of the 30 Movements project, which consists of 30 autonomous performative events executed in various venues in front of an audience. The range of performative strategies is wide: from intimate, solo appearances to happenings engaging more people, from purely physical actions to verbal monologues, from abstract forms to interactive initiatives. In 30 Movements Wach tries to push the boundaries of her imagination and engage her mind and body in dialogue with the harsh reality of everyday life and current politics. The collection of raw images, insights, impulses, and actions also forms part of the continuous creative madness of the VN Laboratory for performance art, where the artist develops her ideas. Seeing the need for the democratization of the creative process Wach has decided to invade the public sphere in order to find a place for weakness, despair, ordinary joy, and basic human confusion, to let them move through the horizon of public visibility. The material and the motifs of 30 Movements will serve as the basis for a future performance planned for the spring of 2023.
