Grounded is a festival of electronic music, critical thinking and activism that addresses current social issues by combining the seemingly incompatible: deinstitutionalised theoretical debates, every day social activism and progressive electronic club culture. Through debates, projections, presentations, music performances and hangouts – the baselines of which are equality irrespective of personal circumstances, solidarity with the weak and the autonomy to govern your own fate – the participants seek relevant, eligible and responsible answers to the contemporary challenges.

Nika Mahnič: Measures of Intimacy

Technologies classifying and separating intimacies are inextricably associated with power. This appearance will intervene with historical facts that are perhaps too counter-sensible to be accepted as truth. Gadgets, or attractors, will be taken at interface value and the psychopolitical war fought with its own devices. The author is not dead, so she took hers seriously. Her birthday, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and her privilege, to study the various measures that decide who has the power and right to be right.

Prof. Kathleen Richardson, Nika Mahnič: Necessity of Politics of Humanness in the Age of Robots and AI

What kind of politics do we need in the 21st century? Do we want to “merge” with the machines? Or make them our companions, friends or wives? Many reject the egocentric model of the isolated individual, and replace it with the undifferentiated cyborg (we’re all connected!) model, but is there another alternative and what might it resemble?

Malidah’s Moasis (SI)

Project Moasis, created by Kaja Skrbinšek aka Malidah, is an audiovisual installation and performance, exploring connections between sound, gestures and moving image. It utilises Leap Motion, a hand tracking device, as an audiovisual instrument, which allows you to intervene, play with and manipulate Ly San; the composition created specifically for this work. In the context of the installation, audience members are invited to actively participate in remixing the piece.

The first edition of the festival was held in 2015 with the theme Autonomy of migration. This year’s theme is Intimacy in the age of artificial intelligence.
