OPEN CALL: Managing Editor L’Internationale online platform "Our Many Europes" (2018–2022)

 

Valand Academy and L’Internationale confederation of European museums wish to appoint a Managing Editor for L’Internationale online platform. The Managing Editor coordinates, both practically and strategically, a lively platform for disseminating research and opinions on art, culture and society. The position is linked to the four year programme "Our Many Europes" (EACEA 32/2017), and appointed as an Adjunct at Valand Academy for the duration.

 

Appointment starts: December 2018 / January 2019
Duration: Fixed term 4 years
Salary: 30,000–40,000 SEK monthly, based on prior qualification.

 

Context
L’Internationale proposes a space for art within a non-hierarchical and decentralized internationalism, based on the value of difference and horizontal exchange among a constellation of cultural agents, locally rooted and globally connected. L’Internationale comprises seven major European museums, Modena Galerija (MG+msum, Ljubljana, Slovenia); Museo Reina Sofía (MNCARS, Madrid, Spain); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA, Barcelona, Spain); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium); SALT (Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey), Musem of Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN, Warsaw, Poland) and Van Abbemuseum (VAM, Eindhoven, Netherlands). For the "Our Many Europes" project, L’Internationale is working together with lead academic partner Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and the National College of Art and Design (Ireland). L’Internationale board of directors and editorial board are both formed by representatives of all institutions in the consortium.

 

Role description
The Managing Editor, through liaison with the partner institutions, will: supervise the practical running of the platform; generate the editorial plan for the next four years; develop a structure and schedule for each issue; be responsible for managing the budget of the platform; coordinate between all the partners, with respect to shared tasks and decisions required for successful operation of the platform. This work programme will be established and implemented in agreement across the partnership through both the board of directors, and the editorial board. L’Internationale online will broaden its audience and integrate two new sections (i) L’internationale archive and educational tools; and (ii) the website of "Glossary of Common Knowledge."

 

The Managing Editor will also teach part time (20%)—through English—at the Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg. The teaching content will be based on the skills and content of the work programme of L’Internationale. A key task will be to bridge the knowledge base of L’Internationale with the curriculum.

 

All tasks within this role are line managed through Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg, and the University of Gothenburg will constitute the place of work. 

 

Essential skills and qualifications 
–Demonstrated knowledge and experience in editorial and publication development 
–Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art practices and theory
–Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management in international partnership contexts 
–Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working in the cultural sector
–Native level fluency in English
–Developed competency in at least one other language of L’Internationale consortium (Spanish, Slovene, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Swedish)
–Excellent inter-cultural communication, networking and social skills

 

Desirable skills and qualifications
–A doctoral research qualification (3rd Cycle)
–Teaching experience in higher education (1st and 2nd cycle)
–Experience of working in a research environment
–Experience of working in online media publishing
–Ability to frame a global perspective on the question of contemporary European cultural politics
