You are kindly invited to the lecture by an art historian, theorist and curator of visual art and culture from Macedonia Suzana Milevska on Friday, 19 December, at 6 p.m. at the Moderna galerija.

In her presentation Suzana Milevska will discuss the concept of "reverse recuperation" exemplified through different shifts in the artistic practices and strategies by Tadej Pogačar, that are found either in the older or in his more recent works. Milevska will attempt on unravelling the tentative relations between various theoretical concepts such are "overidentification" (S. Žižek), "recuperation" (Guy Debord) and "reverse recuperation" by starting with the concept defined by the artist as "parasitism" (the period closely related to the known tendencies of "institutional critique") and moving towards social and "artivistic" engagements of solidarity with different self-organised communities .

Dr. Suzana Milevska is a theorist and curator of visual art and culture from Macedonia. Her interests include postcolonial critique of hegemonic power regimes of representation, feminist art and gender theory, participatory and collaborative art practices. She holds a PhD in visual culture from Goldsmiths College London where she taught from 2002-2004. In 2004 Milevska was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar at Library of Congress. She taught visual culture and gender at the Gender Studies Institute and history and theory of art at the Faculty of Fine Arts ? University Ss. Cyril and Methodius of Skopje. In 2010 she published the book Gender Difference in the Balkans and The Renaming Machine: The Book that summarised her long-term cross-disciplinary project. In 2012 Milevska received the Igor Zabel Award for Culture and Theory. In 2013 she was appointed the Endowed Professor for Central and South Eastern European Art Histories at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna.

Her lecture is organised in collaboration with the Center and Gallery P74 as part of the promotion of Milevska's latest book "The Art of Tadej Pogačar. From Institutional Parasitism to Reverse Recuperation, Agency and Solidarity", publisehd by the Archive Books, Berlin in 2014.
