Join us in an experiential textile workshop revolving around Darinka Pop-Mitić’s work Useful Idiot, in which the artist explores the meaning and dignity of often overlooked work, opening up reflection on lost professions, the privatization of common space, and the time when work was connected to the community.
What does it mean to work – with one’s hands, one’s body, one’s mind? What happens when our work becomes invisible or taken for granted?
Using discarded workwear – an unknown cook’s, janitor’s, cleaner’s, road worker’s – we will explore, together with the Oloop collective, the traces of everyday labor, care and pride inscribed in the fabric. In the process of transforming the clothing into new, symbolic textile objects of a common tapestry, we will seek confirmation of our own worth and dignity, the value of manual labor, and the significance of textiles as carriers of memory. Collective creative work will provide a space for solidarity, reflection, and transformation.
Organizers: Institute Oloop in collaboration with Moderna galerija.
The workshop will be led by Tjaša Bavcon and Jasmina Ferček.
