Throughout her prolific art career, Ema Kugler has created a series of evocative performances, films and video projections, which will round off her presentation at the Biennale with a marathon evening screening. At the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Arts, she is presenting a film collage entitled Infinite Repetitions (new production), which combines the opening sequences of two earlier works, Homo Erectus (short film, 2000) and Echoes of Time (short film, 2013) – both films will be shown in their entirety during the marathon evening. The selection will also include the feature films Phantom (2003) and Man with Shadow (2019).
The introductory talk with the artist will be conducted by Robert Kuret, critic and essayist in the fields of film and literature.
Ema Kugler is a multidisciplinary artist, film director, screenwriter, videographer, performer and costume designer and recipient of the Prešeren Award as well as numerous other accolades. Her films are not rooted in narrative in the conventional sense; rather, they unfold as evocative, emergent images, meticulously choreographed and unbound by specific space or time. They manifest as endlessly repetitive, often otherworldly expressions of human destiny.
