CATALOG | Space With a Potentiality for a Shift

#

The exhibition is on view until May 5, 2025, at the Moderna Galerija (MG+).

The catalog for the exhibition Space With a Potentiality for a Shift has been published. It deepens the understanding of the themes explored within the exhibition, as well as the artworks presented. The curator of the exhibition and editor of the catalog, Ana Mizerit, intended to offer readers a broader insight into contemporary photographic practices.

The exhibition Space With a Potentiality for a Shift  explores how contemporary photography not only depicts the world but also actively involves the viewer in creating new meanings and perspectives. Many of the artworks in the exhibition transcend the usual boundaries of photography, all investigating the complex relationships between space, time, and identity. The central concept of the exhibition is Foucault’s concept of heterotopia – which refers to special, “other” spaces that resist or challenge normative ideas about space, time, and social roles; these can be both physical and conceptual or symbolic spaces.

Heterotopia thus provides a starting point for reflecting on alternative ways of existence, political engagement, and the perception of the world. In this sense, the exhibition itself offers a similar opportunity. The catalog is a companion for deeper reflection and also – for imagining.
