You are kindly invited to a discussion held alongside Lightroom, an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, organized by the Šum platform in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art.
Lightroom, a project by Jon Derganc, presents eight photographs of cloudy skies, arranged in a steady rhythm at approximately equal intervals, encircling the viewer on three of the four walls. The space is illuminated with the same uniformity—by 5000 Kelvin white light, commonly used in graphics and printing as the most "neutral" simulation of daylight. Continuing Derganc's exploration of the material conditions and conceptual underpinnings of photography, Lightroom enacts a deliberate withdrawal from photography’s traditional external orientation—its indexical and documentary function—while offering no firm visual footholds for the viewer.
The conversation will feature artist Jon Derganc, curator Vladimir Vidmar, and Šum magazine editor Tjaša Pogačar. The participants will speak in Slovenian.
Lightroom is on view at MSUM Prepih until 9 March.
This event is part of Šum’s ongoing series of conversations that critically engage with and recontextualize selected works of contemporary art. It is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Ljubljana.
Produced by Šum (Boks Gallery Association) in collaboration with MG+MSUM.
