Still from the video, 2018 (performance Olja Grubić, video Živa Petrič)

You are kindly invited to the performance Still Life by Olja Grubić on Thursday, 18 january 2024, at six p.m. in the Moderna galerija auditorium.

Performance is part of the For Your Pleasure. Feminist Positions in Visual Art from Slovenia exhibition program.

Olja Grubić is a performer and visual artist. She works with contemporary and engaged themes and in the field of various media (performance, cabaret, video, installation, costume design, set design). In her artistic work, she addresses themes that reflect the primordiality of life, combining the basic functions, needs, and instincts of life into visual images and seemingly simple physical actions that shape a wide range of feelings and the social condition of society.

The focus of the topic is the Woman. A body. A child. The future. Hope. Nation. State.

The performance is the action of composing a vaginal still life: in a style very similar to Courbet’s L’Origine du monde, the artist presents her vagina, into which she slowly inserts one blade of grass after another, one flower after another, to finally tie up this interesting ikebana with a pretty bow.

All the classical stereotypes can be attributed to this performance, stereotypes about female and male sexuality, the organic, the floral, the sensual, as well as hardcore erotica, the media, the pornographic. This is a representation of the world with sexuality expressed in pussy style.
