The Council of Europe’s Directorate of Democratic Participation and the Slovenian Ministry of Culture organize a Round table discussion, “Free to Create: Artistic Freedom in Slovenia, and in Europe, today”, followed by the launch of the Slovenian contribution to the Council of Europe’s (digital) Exhibition “Free to Create, Create to be Free”.

The Round Table discussion will raise some important questions regarding the state of artistic freedom in Slovenia and in Europe today - what is a role that art plays in this relationship, are there limits to artistic freedoms and how many of these limits can democracy tolerate?

Following the short introduction by the co-organisers, there will be two main sessions, which will interact:

1 – "Free to Create" - round table with the State Secretary for Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Marko Rusjan, MA, Director of the Directorate for Democratic Participation at the Council of Europe, Matjaž Gruden, President of the Slovenian Association of Writers, Poets and Publicists PEN, Tanja Tuma, author of the Report on Artistic Freedom in Europe at the Council of Europe, Sarah Whyatt, and three international artists Khaled Barakeh, Malgorzata Kazmierczak and Natalia Vatsadze. The discussion will be moderated by Nataša Briški. Sarah Whyatt will also present the Council of Europe's Free to Create report on freedom of artistic expression in Europe
