EarZoom 2017 – TPSG is a whole-day event comprising a series of lectures and concert performances of contemporary electro-acoustic music with a focus on new instruments for musical expression and improvisation. EarZoom 2017 features Atau Tanaka, who uses an electromyogram system to measure the electrical activity of muscles, as a way to capture the gestural intention and effort of the performer; the duo Feedback cell by Alice Eldridge and Chris Kiefer, exploring their ever-evolving feedback cello project consisting of two butchered cellos, electromagnetic pickups, code, bows and lots of soldering; Hanspeter Portner performing his instrument the Chimaera - an array of linear hall-effect sensors which make up a continuous interaction space where sensors are excited with strong magnets worn on fingers; as well as Tomaž Grom, presenting a new piece for double bass and electronics within which he contemplates the daringness of risking the predictable vs. the unpredictable.
