WOMEN gazing at WOMEN | The female gaze and the self-representation of women in contemporary art history
Workshop coinciding with the exhibition Picasso: Writing into Drawing

Based on the current Picasso exhibition, this workshop raises certain issues on how art history has portrayed women and how two key figures, the painter and his model, have historically followed strict gender stereotypes.
The workshop will comprise watching Céline Sciamma’s film Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019), a guided tour of the Picasso exhibition, and a reflection on how to confront this hegemonic male gaze from a feminist perspective.
The workshop will be conducted by art historian Carmen Calvo Santesmases and writer and translator Urška Sterle.
