The exhibition Low-Budget Utopias presents works that come largely from the Moderna galerija’s Arteast 2000+ Collection. This is the eighth installation of the collection in which we develop the notion of the collection as a tool. In the present exhibition we explain the collection and the museum as tools that help to sustain a utopian consciousness.

The exhibition aims to present a selective overview of developments just past or still taking place, and attempts to define the main phenomena and trends in contemporary art in Slovenia over the past decade.

The initial exhibition The Present and Presence was installed on the occasion of the opening of the new Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova building on 26 November 2011. Repetition 1 is the first variation of the exhibition on the besis of the concept of repetition as a tool to expand the format of a permanent exhibition showing yet another dimension of time which is added to the initial collection of times.

The concept of contemporaneity and the related concentration of specific artistic interests cannot be treated only chronologically. For this reason the exhibition of the collection at the +MSUM problematizes time and focuses on its liberating potential.
