COMMENTARY | Refugee Women – Stories of Fate, Courage, and Human Rights
20 June 2026 — 20 September 2026
On the occasion of World Refugee Day, we will open the exhibition Refugee Women – Stories of Fate, Courage, and Human Rights in the foyer of the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova.
The exhibition presents portraits of six women who sought a new home in Slovenia as a result of war or persecution. They come from Iran, Ukraine, Cameroon, Palestine, Bosnia, and Kosovo. Through personal stories and photographs, the exhibition creates a space for reflection on war, the loss of home, identity, solidarity, and human rights. The exhibition has been prepared to mark the 25th anniversary of the first official observance of World Refugee Day.
The photographs were taken by Nino Bektashashvili, and the stories were written by Jasna Gabrovšek. The exhibition was produced by Institute APIS, represented by Romana Zajec. The project is supported through the Catalyst of Change programme and co-funded by the European Union.
