MSUM: Special Projects

Opening, 17.4.2012 at 8 pm

Complementing the repeated exhibition are five special projects: The Bosnia Archive, The Body and the East Archive, NETRAF: Portable Intelligence Increase Museum, An Archive of Performance Art, An Archive-in-becoming.

The Bosna Archive
In 1996 Moderna galerija staged a project entitled For the Museum of Contemporary Art Sarajevo 2000, which presented the works donated to the Bosnian capital by thirteen preeminent international artists. The museum in Sarajevo was expected to open by 2000, but unfortunately there is no telling even today when this might actually happen. What is far worse, today Sarajevo is a town of floundering or closed cultural institutions. Local authorities are unable to come to an agreement as to whose responsibility the museums and their collections are. National and international heritage is deteriorating there in full view of the entire world, so to speak. Similarly as during the war in Bosnia, nobody seems to be able to help.

MG: 20th CENTURY / CONTINUITIES AND RUPTURES

After a hiatus of several years, the Moderna galerija is again staging a selection of 20th century works from its national collection. Unlike the previous so-called permanent displays, which tended to focus on presenting chronological overviews of modernist styles, the 20th Century / Continuities and Ruptures exhibition breaks with traditional linearity by introducing the topics of the 20th century avant-gardes and of the art of the Partisan resistance, bringing them into the national history of art on an equal footing with more familiar trends and, as a consequence, casting new light on the latter.

IMPOSSIBLE RETROSPECTIVE

26 November 2011 - 31 January 2012

AN IMPOSSIBLE RETROSPECTIVE (ACTIVATING THE FUTURE) is the title of both a temporary exhibition and the permanent display of Apolonija Šušteršič?s projects on the ground floor of the MSUM. Working together with MSUM and collaborators on a project of interior design, visual artist and architect Apolonija Šušteršič has developed a concept for activating a part of the space on the ground floor, dedicated to informing the public, presenting connections, and exchanging ideas between the art institution, its visitors, and various local and international agents.
