FROM postwar to postmodern : art in Japan 1945-1989 : primary documents / edited by Doryun Chong, Michio Hayashi, Kenji Kajiya, Fumihiko Sumitomo. - New York : The Museum of Modern Art, cop. 2012. - 440 str. : ilustr. ; 25 cm

"Brings together critical historical documents, many of which are translated into English for the first time, in Japanese arts from the end of World War II through the next four and a half decades." --> str. 14. - "A trove of primary source materials, From Postwar to Postmodern, Art in Japan 1945-1989 is an invaluable scholarly resource for readers who wish to explore the fascinating subject of avant-garde art in postwar Japan. In this comprehensive anthology, an array of key documents, artist manifestos, critical essays, and roundtable discussions are translated into English for the first time. The pieces cover a broad range of artistic mediums -- including photography, film, performance, architecture, and design -- and illuminate their various points of convergence in the Japanese context. The collection is organized chronologically and thematically to highlight significant movements, works, and artistic phenomena, such as the pioneering artist collectives Gutai and Hi Red Center, the influential photography periodical Provoke, and the emergence of video art in the 1980s. Interspersed throughout the volume are more than twenty newly commissioned texts by contemporary scholars. Including Bert Winther-Tamaki on art and the Occupation and Reiko Tomii on the Yomiuri Independent Exhibition, these pieces supplement and provide a historical framework for the primary source materials. From Postwar to Postmodern, Art in Japan 1945-1989 offers an unprecedented look at over four decades of Japanese art -- both as it unfolded and as it is seen from the perspective of the present day." --> na zavihku ov. - Kronologija 1945-1989: str. 414-423. - Kazalo

MUYBRIDGE, Eadweard
Eadweard Muybridge : the human and animal locomotion photographs / Hans Christian Adam (ed.). - Köln : Taschen, cop. 2010. - 804 str. : ilustr. ; 25 x 34 cm

Vzpor. nem., angl. in franc. besedilo. - Biografija: str. 770-778, 779-788, 789-798. - "English photographer Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904) was a pioneer in visual studies of human and animal locomotion. In 1872, he famously helped settle a bet for former California governor Leland Stanford by providing photographic proof that when galloping, a horse momentarily lifts all of its legs off of the ground. Muybridge accomplished this feat by inventing a complex system of shutter releases that allowed him to capture freeze frames of the horse's gallop - proving conclusively, for the first time, that the horse does indeed lift all of its hooves in the air for a fraction of a second. For the next three decades, Muybridge continued his quest to fully catalog many an aspect of human and animal movement, shooting hundreds of nude or draped subjects engaged in various activities such as running, walking, boxing, fencing, and descending a staircase (the latter study inspired Marcel Duchamp's famous 1912 painting). This resplendent book traces the life and work of Muybridge, from his early thinking about anatomy and movement to his latest photographic experiments, and is copiously illustrated with his complete locomotion plates as well as biographical pictures and texts. The work of this icon of 19th century photography, still very relevant today, is most deserving of this long overdue XL tome that will delight art and photography fans as well as horse lovers." --> na zavihku ov. - Bibliografija: str. 800-801

RACHLEFF, Melissa
Inventing downtown : artist-run galleries in New York City, 1952-1965 / Melissa Rachleff ; introduction by Lynn Gumpert ; interviews by Billy Klüver and Julie Martin. - New York : Grey Art Gallery, New York University ; Munich ; London ; New York : DelMonico Books/Prestel, 2017. - 296 str. : ilustr. ; 32 str.

Nasl. raztegnjen čez dve str. - "Catalogue accompanies exhibition held 10 January - 8 December 2017, Grey Art Gallery, New York University, New York; 28 September 2017 - 25 November 2018, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Lucerne, Switzerland." --> v kolofonu. - "This enlightening and thought-provoking look at New York City s postwar art scene focuses on the galleries and the artists that helped transform American art. While the achievements of New York City s most renowned postwar artists de Kooning, Pollock, Rothko, Franz Kline have been studied in depth, a large cadre of lesser-known but influential artists came of age between 1952 and 1965. Also understudied are the early, experimental works by more well- known figures such as Mark di Suvero, Jim Dine, Dan Flavin, and Claes Oldenburg. Focusing on innovative artist-run galleries, this book invites readers to reevaluate the period uncovering its diversity, creativity, and nuances, and tracing the spaces influence during the decades that followed. Inventing Downtown charts the development of artist-run galleries in Lower Manhattan from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s, showing how the area s multicultural spirit played a major role in shaping the artworks exhibited there. The book explores 14 key spaces in which styles such as Pop, Minimalism, and performance and installation art thrived. Excerpts from 33 revealing interviews with artists, critics, and dealers, conducted by Billy Klu ver and Julie Martin, offer unique personal insight into the era s creative milieu. Taken together, the book s essays and interviews provide a distinctly new assessment of how downtown New York s fertile environment nurtured an innovative art scene." --> na zavihku ov. - Selected bibliography: str. 285-287. - Kazalo

SOLOMON-Godeau, Abigail
        Photography after photography : gender, genre, history / Abigail Solomon-Godeau ; edited by Sarah Parsons. - Durham (N.C.) ; London : Duke University Press, 2017. - XXV, 255 str. : ilustr. ; 23 cm

"Presenting two decades of work by Abigail Solomon-Godeau, Photography after Photography is an inquiry into the circuits of power that shape photographic practice, criticism, and historiography. As the boundaries that separate photography from other forms of artistic production are increasingly fluid, Solomon-Godeau, a pioneering feminist and politically engaged critic, argues that the relationships between photography, culture, gender, and power demand renewed attention. In her analyses of the photographic production of Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Susan Meiselas, Francesca Woodman, and others, Solomon-Godeau refigures the disciplinary object of photography by considering these practices through an examination of the determinations of genre and gender as these shape the relations between photographers, their images, and their viewers. Among her subjects are the 2006 Abu Ghraib prison photographs and the Cold War-era exhibition The Family of Man, insofar as these illustrate photography's embeddedness in social relations, viewing relations, and ideological formations." --> z ov. - Bibliografija: str. 237-248. - Kazalo

VISION in motion : streams of sensation and configurations of time / edited by Michael F. Zimmermann. - Zürich ; Berlin : Diaphanes, 2016. - 656 str. : ilustr. ; 25 cm

"Vision is not mere registration of what enters, via the gateway of our eyes, from the outside world into our inner consciousness. Understanding the act of seeing as mirroring the outside world in mental images overlooks its temporal aspect. From Berkeley to Helmholtz, from Goethe to Cézanne, new discourses based on the physiology of the sense organs lead to new conceptions of vision not only conceived of as a mental process, but as a cognitive activity. Even before Freud interpreted dreams, seeing was conceived of as accompanying our life even when we sleep. However, to understand even the stream of the sensations, we have to configure them in pictures. Since the 19th century, the media reflect about the confrontation of seeing as a diachronic activity and of perception as coded in synchronic images. The contributions to the volume investigate the opposition of the stream of sensations and the configuration of time - from early illustrations of plants to the avant-gardes, from gesture to cinema, from decapitation to dance, from David Hume to Bergson and Deleuze. The main objective is a critical examination of images rendering vision in motion, without reducing them to the temporality of narrative." --> z ov. - Bibliografija z opombami na dnu str.
