ALTERNATIVE fashion before glossies, 1985-1995 : [Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow, April 28-June 12, 2011] / [curators Misha Baster, Irina Meglinskaya ; texts Misha Buster, Elena Fedotova ; editor Ekaterina Allenova]. - Moscow : Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, cop. 2011. - 93 str. : ilustr. ; 25 cm

Lat. in cir. pisava. - Vzpor. angl. in rus. besedilo. - " The "Alternative Fashion before Glossies, 1985-1995" show displays the history of alternative fashion, a trend that emerged at the junction of rock and squat club culture, during the period that started with early perestroika and ended those the arrival of glossy fashion periodicals in mid 1990s. In mid 1980s the inebriating atmosphere of freedom triggered an unprecedented surge of underground culture. The gathering of Avant-Garde artists, musicians, representatives of various subcultures - of punk, rock, the New Wave - gave birth to a unique phenomenon of alternative fashion with shows often turning into performances. Its catwalks were not only such venues as the Fashion House in the Kuznetsky Most street, the shows often took place at the concerts of Sergei Kuryokhin's Popular Mechanics group, the Sovincenter hall, and squats, concert halls where rock music roared, and streets in the center of the city. Alternative fashion was made famous by incredible combinations of hoop petticoats made of climbers-blankets and French lace, uniform tunics boasting open backs, and skirts with folds suspiciously reminding viewers of draperies. The new trend in fashion emerged in the period of the revolutionary gap in the time when Soviet fashion ingloriously died, trampled down by imported products and new tastes of ordinary citizens. During 1985-1995 alternative fashion was the symbol of changing time and a brand of the perestroika. USSR abroad, drawing the attention of western media with its experimental features. Artists played the hard roles of trendsetters - the Avant-Garde and socialites expressed their attitude to contemporaneity through images and wear. While at the beginning alternative fashion as a trend was romantic in its amateurism, at the end of the period alternative fashion designers created authors' collections and shows which were in great demand among global professionals. The phenomenon of alternative fashion was noticed and appreciated by such western couturiers as Vivienne Westwood who had thought earlier that there could be no fashion in the country of sickles and hammers, and Yohji Yamamoto for whom special shows were organized in the epicenter of the liberal Moscow fashion crowd in the Petrovsky Avenue. Paco Rabanne, Andrew Logan, Zandra Rhodes and many other less famous couturiers of Europe were interested in taking part in the Riga Assembly of Untamed Fashion organized by Bruno Birmanis. Pani Bronya (Dubner), a model of the Avant-Garde artist Alexander Petlyura (Lyashenko), became a symbol of recognition for the Russian alternative fashion when she was awarded the title of Alternative Miss World 1998. The exhibition will present about a hundred photographs with images of fashion created by Katya Filippova, Gosha Ostretsov, Alexander Petlyura, Andrey Bartenev, Katya Mikulskaya-Mosina, Katya Ryzhikova, Iren Burmistrova, the La Re duet, and Bruno Birmanis." --> s spletne str. založnika

DOCUMENTA (14. ; 2017 ; Athens; Kassel)
        Documenta 14 : daybook ; Athens, 8 April - Kassel, 17 September 2017 / [editors Quinn Latimer, Adam Szymczyk ; translations Despina Alexandri ... et al.]. - München ; London ; New York : Prestel, cop. 2017. - [344] str. : ilustr. ; 30 cm

"The documenta 14: Daybook emphasizes the 163 calendar days of the exhibition in Athens and Kassel in 2017 - a first-time extension of the usual 100-day documenta project - and the personal and subjective nature of the spectator's relationship to them. Each documenta 14 artist is granted a day in the Daybook, which includes a newly commissioned text as well as images selected by the artist specifically for the publication. The texts are authored by a wide variety of writers, critics, curators, poets, novelists, and historians and are close readings of the artists practices in an array of literary forms: criticism, letters, poems, and parables. The Daybook is accompanied by two map booklets, for Athens and Kassel respectively, that are available in the exhibition and can be inserted into the Daybook%s dust jacket, thereby completing the book. "The main book of documenta 14 takes the form of a reader, evoking the various meanings associated with the term. The documenta 14 Reader explores: in essay, allegory, poem, historical legal document, and hybrid literary other the discursive and practical concerns of the project, such as debt and gift, the coloniality of power, economies of the exhibition, and languages (and other currencies) without remainder. A critical anthology that reflects on history in order to better envision the present and reconceptualize the future, the Reader features both newly commissioned and foundational texts as well as image portfolios that illustrate the expansive scope - at once temporal and geographic - of historical artists and actors included in the documenta 14 project. DOLAR, Mladen
        What's in a name? / Mladen Dolar. - Ljubljana : Aksioma - Institute for Contemporary Art, 2014. - 62 str. ; 18 cm

"A name always bears a symbolic mandate. As soon as false pretenders appear, questions arise as to the symbolic mandate's power, its validity and justification. Names refer to genealogies, yet thereby always involve a certain distribution of power. To arrogate a name is to arrogate power. There is a claim to power in every name, in assuming the social role that goes with it, in transmitting symbolic legacy, in social impact, in genealogical inscription. The story of false pretenders entails the moment of bemusement - one's feeling that, really, one is always a false pretender, as there's no way one could inhabit a name legitimately, naturally, feeling fully justified bearing the name one bears. No sufficient grounds can ever substantiate it; no name is ever covered by the Leibnizian principle of sufficient reason. The feeling of being an impostor, false pretender to a name, isn't personal sentiment or idiosyncrasy; it's a structural feeling accompanying names - their shadow and effect." --> z ov. - O avtorju: str.         HOW institutions think : between contemporary art and curatorial discourse / edited by Paul OʼNeill, Lucy Steeds, and Mick Wilson. - Feldmeilen : LUMA Foundation ; Annandale-on-Hudson : Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College ; Cambridge (Mass.) ; London : The MIT Press, 2017. - 248 str. : ilustr. ; 30 cm

"Reflections on how institutions inform art, curatorial, educational, and research practices while they shape the world around us.Contemporary art and curatorial work, and the institutions that house them, have often been centers of power, hierarchy, control, value, and discipline. Even the most progressive among them face the dilemma of existing as institutionalized anti-institutions. This anthology--taking its title from Mary Douglas's 1986 book, How Institutions Think--reconsiders the practices, habits, models, and rhetoric of the institution and the anti-institution in contemporary art and curating. Contributors reflect upon how institutions inform art, curatorial, educational, and research practices as much as they shape the world around us. They consider the institution as an object ofienquiry across many disciplines, including political theory, organizational science, and sociology.Bringing together an international and multidisciplinary group of writers, How Institutions Think addresses such questions as whether institution building is still possible, feasible, or desirable; if there are emergent institutional models for progressive art and curatorial research practices; and how we can establish ethical principles and build our institutions accordingly. The first part, "Thinking via Institution," moves from the particular to the general; the second part, "Thinking about Institution," considers broader questions about the nature of institutional frameworks." --> z ov. - "Contributors include: Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Dave Beech, Melanie Bouteloup, Nikita Yingqian Cai, Binna Choi, Annette Kraus, Pip Day, Clementine Deliss, Keller Easterling, Andrea Phillips, Bassam El Baroni, Charles Esche, Patricia Falguieres, Patrick D. Knjiga je študija analogij med alkimijo, krščansko dogmo in psihološkimi simboli. Jung izhaja iz predpostavke, da je alkimija temeljna za razumevanje kolektivnega nezavednega. Opazovani fenomeni nezavednega (sanje, vizije) v obliki podob razkrivajo povezave, kakršne je moč najti tudi pri alkimijski simboliki. Jung opozarja na dvojno naravo alkimije, ki je po eni strani kemični in po drugi mistično-duševni proces. Alkimija Jungu pomaga razumeti transcendentno naravo človeške psihe." --> z ov. - 800 izv. - Bibliografija: str. 503-525. - Kazali

"This exceptional book, published here in an accessibly priced paperback format, comes out just as the shift to digital photography threatens to render the contact sheet obsolete. It celebrates the contact sheet as a fascinating way of accompanying great photographers as they work towards, and capture, the most enduring images of our time. 139 contact sheets, representing 69 photographers, are featured, as well as zoom-in details, selected photographs, press cards, notebooks and spreads from contemporary publications, including Life magazine and Picture Post. Further insight is provided by texts written by the photographers themselves or by experts chosen by members estates. It includes many greats of photography, among them Henri Cartier- Bresson, Elliott Erwitt and Inge Morath, as well as Magnum's latest generation, such as Jonas Bendiksen, Alessandra Sanguinetti and Alec Soth. These photographers cover over 70 years of history, from the D-Day landings by Robert Capa and the Paris riots of 1968 by Bruno Barbey to images of Che Guevara by René Burri, Malcolm X by Eve Arnold and classic New Yorkers by Bruce Gilden." --> z ov. - Kazalo

--> z ov. - Bibliografija: str. 237-244. - Kazalo

Artists and Their Books showcases the personal libraries of ten important contemporary artists based in the United States (Mark Dion, Theaster Gates, Wangechi Mutu, Ed Ruscha, and Carrie Mae Weems), Canada (Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller), and the United Kingdom (Billy Childish, Tracey Emin, and Martin Parr). Through engaging interviews, the artists discuss the necessity of reading and the meaning of books in their lives and careers. This is a book about books, but it even more importantly highlights the role of literature in shaping an artist's self-presentation and persona. Photographs of each artist's bookshelves present an evocative glimpse of personal taste, of well-loved and rare volumes, and of the individual touches that make a bookshelf one's own. The interviews are accompanied by "top ten" reading lists assembled by each artist, an introduction by Jo Steffens, and Marcel Proust's seminal essay "On Reading." --> z ov.
