DRAUGHT | Jaka Babnik | Time Leveling

At the focus of Jaka Babnik’s work is the relation between a photograph, its subject, and the latter’s context – rather than the physical appearance of the subject, the photographer is interested in its significance and symbolic value. Adopting topographic, anthropological and exploratory approaches and diverse photographic practices, Babnik deals with ignored or glossed-over historical issues and events; in this, he often collaborates with public institutions.

INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION | Andrzej Wróblewski. Waiting Room

15 October 2020 — 10 January 2021
The first international exhibition of Andrzej Wróblewski (1927–1957) that is dedicated solely to his travels across Yugoslavia and his late work. It showcases more than 120 of his works from the period between 1955 and 1957. The concept of the exhibition also relies on the “waiting room mentality,” as Heiner Müller described it in the documenta IX catalogue, seen as typical of the onetime socialist Central and Eastern Europe experience.

Topical Commentaries from the Past, our new mini-exhibition series in the vestibule of the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, presents works from the Moderna galerija collections on posters, whose multilayered content imbues them with a communicative power that transcends any particular period. With its projects, the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova does not confine contemporaneity to the present moment exclusively but finds it in the past as well. Our series of new posters featuring works from our collections link past potentials with the pressing issues of our time, today.

EXHIBITION | Sonica Festival | Jenna Sutela: Holobiont

Holobiont considers the idea of embodied cognition on a planetary scale, featuring a zoom from the outer space to inside the gut. The video documents Planetary Protection rituals at the European Space Agency and explores extremophilic bacteria in fermented foods as possible distributors of life between the stars. Bacillus subtilis, the nattō bacterium, plays a leading role. The opening will feature a discussion between Jenna Sutela (video call) and Tjaša Pogačar (live at +MSUM).

Some dream interpreters say that when we dream about our homes we’re really dreaming about ourselves, as though our homes were as unique as we are. You are what your home is. But it’s not that simple.

Karol Radziszewski presents a rich selection of Central and Eastern European queer archival materials from the collection of the Queer Archives Institute (QAI). The QAI, established by Radziszewski in November 2015, is a non-profit artist-run organization dedicated to research, collection, digitalization, presentation, exhibition, analysis and artistic interpretation of queer archives, with special focus on the countries of the former Eastern Bloc.

EXHIBITION | Zoran Mušič: Condemned to Hope – Drawings from Dachau

Twenty-four of Mušič’s Dachau drawings recently discovered in Italy are to be presented at an exhibition included in the Moderna galerija permanent exhibition of 20th century art. The exhibition poses some fundamental questions: "How does art confront the point where absolutely everything can be taken away from us? Not simply as physical death, but as death while still alive. How to create art after the gas chambers?"

Retrospective exhibition of the Painter Do You Know Your Duty (V.S.S.D.) duo, active between 1985 and 1995, and Alen Ožbolt, who after the discontinuation of V.S.S.D. continued his own artistic journey. The exhibition offers a comprehensive insight into the production of this particular phenomenon of art in the late 1980s and early 1990s in our country.
