EXHIBITION | Dimitry Orlač: Memory/Presence

BIO 26| Common Knowledge | Bodies of Knowledge

In her work, Neja Zorzut explores the links between objecthood and corporeality. She understands objecthood as perceiving an object in its adaptation and relation to the body. Her aim is to represent an appearance based on bodiless objecthood, where materiality results from the adaptation to the body.

What is the avant-garde in Slovenia concerned with today? The question sounds simple, almost banal, but it brings two subjects back into the realm of debate – the existence of the avant-garde and contemporaneity. First of all, let’s ask whether the avant-garde in Slovenia is alive or dead. What the curator has found in his field research is that it is both – it is alive and dead at the same time.

Arteast 2000+ is the first museum collection conceived with a focus on Eastern European postwar avant-garde art in a broader international context. Since its inception in 2000, the collection has been offering a comprehensive overview of art in the region. It is recognized for the insight it provides into certain shared sociopolitical issues that are or were of central concern for the artists in the formerly socialist countries.

EXHIBITION | Acts of Contact Improvisation

Gestes du Contact Improvisation [Acts of Contact Improvisation] is a traveling exhibition from the Musée de la danse curated by Romain Bigé to inhabit the grey area between the black box of the dance studio and the white cube of the museum. In Ljubljana, the exhibition is presented in the Temporary Slovene Dance Archive at +MSUM and in the Bunker theatre at Stara mestna elektrarna (SMEEL) from July 1st to 6th 2019.

58TH VENICE BIENNALE | Marko Peljhan: Here we go again … SYSTEM 317

At the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Peljhan will present a new work from his Resolution series. This series, which has evolved over some 20 years, proposes some specific material and applicable solutions to certain problems in society. It is the artist’s response to the state in which the world finds itself today, calling for a rediscovery of space and of the place, the physical location of an individual, and a utopian response to the rapid changes in the environment.
