The Topical Applications Vol. 2 exhibition addresses the issue of the disappearance of the body in the beauty industry’s materials, procedures and products, which cast it in the role of a surface to be designed and augmented.

After the success of last year's exhibition that transported us into the world of virtual reality and 360-degree video experiences, VR/360°@ANIMATEKA is back with a new selection of internationally acclaimed independent VR works.

This survey exhibition presents a selection of works from the generous donation of works by Dimitry Orlač, a highly distinctive contemporary artist who has decided, at an advanced stage in his career, to donate to Moderna galerija in Ljubljana more than fifty of his valuable works produced in a variety of techniques across a number of distinct creative periods.

BIO 26| Common Knowledge will be organized around a central exhibition of already existing projects that will be presented at MAO, and six major commissioned experimental projects by multidisciplinary teams selected through a designathon process, presented among others at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova.

In her work, Neja Zorzut explores the links between objecthood and corporeality. She understands objecthood as perceiving an object in its adaptation and relation to the body. Her aim is to represent an appearance based on bodiless objecthood, where materiality results from the adaptation to the body.

What is the avant-garde in Slovenia concerned with today? The question sounds simple, almost banal, but it brings two subjects back into the realm of debate – the existence of the avant-garde and contemporaneity. First of all, let’s ask whether the avant-garde in Slovenia is alive or dead. What the curator has found in his field research is that it is both – it is alive and dead at the same time.

Gestes du Contact Improvisation [Acts of Contact Improvisation] is a traveling exhibition from the Musée de la danse curated by Romain Bigé to inhabit the grey area between the black box of the dance studio and the white cube of the museum. In Ljubljana, the exhibition is presented in the Temporary Slovene Dance Archive at +MSUM and in the Bunker theatre at Stara mestna elektrarna (SMEEL) from July 1st to 6th 2019.

In her work Maja Hodošček explores social relations through the politics of exchange and collaboration; in particular, she is interested in speculative models of representation in relation to the documentary.

At the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Peljhan will present a new work from his Resolution series. This series, which has evolved over some 20 years, proposes some specific material and applicable solutions to certain problems in society. It is the artist’s response to the state in which the world finds itself today, calling for a rediscovery of space and of the place, the physical location of an individual, and a utopian response to the rapid changes in the environment.

This international exhibition of the visual arts in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia will provide an overview of painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing, photography and film from the time the dictatorship was set up to the beginning of World War II.

Izar’s line drawing of the first two people facing the classic dilemma will adorn the MSUM vestibule for a while in an attempt to rock the boat a bit in this awesome time we’re living in, when everything is both unspeakably fateful, part of one’s browsing history and stored online for all eternity, and, on the other hand, ephemeral, transient, exchangeable after a month if one grows tired of it or realizes the style doesn’t suit.

The exhibition in Moderna galerija will focuse on the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM); more precisely it will emphasize the ideas, ideals and principles of the movement, particularly in close connection with its cultural policies and place them in a contemporary context with the question: Could there be a non-aligned contemporaneity? And if so, what would it be like?

Nika Ham’s creative practice presents the special relation between her artistic work and her “day job”. Her creative impulse stems from her specific situation as a young artist working part-time as a museum attendant at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana.

In the face of the shifts and changes that occurred in art over the 20th century, painting as an eminently traditional medium ran up against all conceivable boundaries, and also managed to transcend all of them, into either physical or social space.

The common thread running through the exhibited works by 17 contemporary photographers is the images and situations that produce the effect of precarious environments, thus echoing the precarity of life in contemporary society.
