Ana Sluga

Triptych I

2016, acrylic and spray on canvas, 150cm × 120cm

In recent years, Ana Sluga has been increasingly painting the material world that is already obsolete due to the rapid development of production processes, and as such, has nostalgic value. Exploring the visual complexity of a given object, the artist transforms its univocality, giving it a range of semantic and symbolic significance. To do this, she often subtly uses the technique of acrylic and spray on canvas, and the process of isolating various small items and giving them such prominence that they become monumental symbols. Nonetheless, they remain fragile, while their significance is always ambiguous, imbricated in allusion and suggestions and dependent on the viewer’s emotional and intellectual sensibility, e.g. their ability to experience the alienation of an object as the universal state of human existence.
