Marko Zorović

Pièces de clavecin

2015, acrylic on canvas, 130 x 160 cm

In his paintings, Marko Zorovič brings together in paradoxical combinations motifs of the undervalued manual labor of public utility workers with the tradition of majestic baroque religious painting and the equally notorious socialist realist tradition of public mural painting that celebrated the heroic nature of such labor. In Zorovič’s formulation, the narrative of the all-conquering shock brigade work is disrupted, and so is perspective in the painting. Zorovič’s work subtly suggests an insightful criticism of the reality of today’s labor market and policies.
