100 TOASTS to the Slovene state, statesmen, stateswomen, and citizens

Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Maistrova 3

You’re invited to take part in the VIA NEGATIVA project in the vestibule of +MSUM, starting 12 April, as the third in a series of artistic commentaries.

Earlier this year, VIA NEGATIVA’s artistic director Bojan Jablanovec and Polish performance artist Anita Wach staged the premiere of the solo performance 100 Toasts, toasting to the power of the word and the freedom of speech. In Poland, the performance was dedicated to celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Polish theater director and visual artist Tadeusz Kantor; and in Slovenia, to the death of Slovene poet France Prešeren and the culture that flourishes atop his grave. Read more about the performance.

The next staging of the performance will be dedicated to the birth of the Slovene state. On 25 June 1991, Slovenia declared independence and sovereignty. What can we toast to today?

You’re invited to write your own toast to the Slovene state, statesmen and stateswomen, and citizens on the wall of the +MSUM vestibule. You can also email us your proposals at info@mg-lj.si or info@vntheatre.com. We will toast with your toasts on 25 June at +MSUM.

Please keep your toasts down to 15 words. If you find that impossible, send us your longer versions and trust us to shorten and adapt them for the performance. All the toasts we receive will be posted immediately, and in integral form on the Via Negativa and Moderna galerija websites.
