Saturday, 3 December  2022 | 11 a.m. Moderna galerija, MG+

Exhibition: 3. november 2022–22. januar 2023

After 16 years, Moderna galerija is again staging an exhibition of work by Franc Ferjan, an amateur photographer from the first half of the 20th century. Based on the recently discovered body of 1,700 of his black-and-white and color stereo slides and negatives, this show complements the 2006 exhibition entitled Franc Ferjan (1885–1964). A Photographer of Private and Social Reality.

Eszter Polonyi is a Research Fellow in Cultural History at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia. She is also a Visiting Lecturer in Media Archaeology at the University of Udine, Italy. She has been working in the region since 2020, when she moved from a job as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and at Columbia University in New York, which is also where she was working on her doctoral dissertation until 2017. Eszter's research focuses on the kind of art and visual culture that was made in the East Central European region and that emerged at the intersection of experiments in sensory perception in science, media and art in the early twentieth century. She mainly writes about film and photography, but she has a longstanding fascination with obscure, failed and more minor historic media apparatuses that offer new ways of writing a history of images. She also collects stereoscopes.
