You are cordially invited to attend the premiere of the project The Last Pictures by the internationally renowned artist, writer, and geographer Trevor Paglen.
Trevor Paglen's work blurs disciplinary and formal borders to construct unfamiliar ways to see and interpret the world around us.

In his work, the artist employs photography, video, archives and other sources. Paglen's visual work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Tate Modern, London; and at Istanbul Biennial 2009 and at a numerous other solo and group exhibitions. He came to Ljubljana in April 2011 with his show A Hidden Landscape at the Aksioma Project Space.

This fall, the artist and the Creative Time launched an archival disc into outer space, where it will orbit the Earth for billions of years affixed to the exterior of the communications satellite EchoStar XVI. To create the artifact, Paglen micro-etched one hundred photographs selected to represent modern human history onto a silicon disc encased in a gold-plated shell, designed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Carleton College.
The Last Pictures is both a message to the future and a poetic meditation on the legacy of our civilization. The images contained in the artifact constitute what the artist describes as "cave paintings from the 21st century," as they will become one of the longest-lasting material remnants of contemporary civilization.

The project was first presented in New York on 19 September 2012. In Europe, it will be shown at Goethe-Institut, Amsterdam; ZKM Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe; Moderna galerija, Ljubljana; SALT Istanbul, and Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam.

The event is organized in cooperation with Creative Time and Aksioma Institute.
